Sheriff's office: Jury duty call from 704 number is a scam

LEE COUNTY, AL (WTVM) -

Authorities in Lee County are warning the public about a scam that's sweeping the area. The sheriff's office says it has received several calls from residents who said they have received calls or text messages advising they missed jury duty.

The message tells people to call a specific number to clear up the problem and even warns a $500 fine or a jail sentence of 30 days may be imposed.

The sheriff's office says these calls are not official and are not connected the Lee County court system.

If you received a call or message from (704) 319-7254 please disregard it.
