COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

It's been almost a month since a Columbus woman was found stabbed to death in her Cherokee Avenue apartment.

Monday morning, the man accused of taking her life appeared in Recorder's Court and new details were revealed on what may have happened that day.

Jarod Ingram, 27, has several serious charges against him including murder and child endangerment.

Columbus police said Ingram stabbed his ex-wife 28-year-old Ciara Ingram to death while their children waited outside. She was found days later inside her Cherokee Avenue apartment.

"It doesn't take a lot to make out probable cause," said Defense attorney Michael Reynolds. "Probable cause and beyond a reasonable doubt are two different things all together. As it stands right now, in my opinion, they were pressing it to get probable cause."

A Columbus detective said the children, ages 6 and 7, told investigators Jarod Ingram put them in the car and went back inside the apartment. When the children got hot, they got out of the car and that's when they heard screams coming from the apartment, according to an officer's testimony.

Reynolds says there's not enough evidence to convict Ingram, which is why he's calling for the case to be dismissed.

"We're asking obviously for a dismissal of the charges," Reynolds said. "We don't believe that probable cause was made out. If they had for lack of a better word a smoking gun, they would've arrested him way back when they originally interviewed him which was over a month ago."

Detectives also testified that family and friends told them Ingram and his ex-wife had a violent relationship, but nothing was ever reported to police.

"He has absolutely no prior record," Reynolds said. "I believe obviously this is a case that screams for bond."

Ingram pled not guilty to all charges. He remains in the Muscogee County Jail without bond.
