Deputies investigate murder and suicide

Sheriff's deputies are investigating what led to the death of two people over the weekend in Troup county.

A home in the 200 block of Jim Turner Road in West Point sits quiet now, but one neighbor who did not want us to use her name, says things at this house were very different Saturday morning.

"The only thing I saw was the sheriff's cars and the fire truck. I heard all the sirens," said the neighbor.

Officials say an adult child, whose name they did not release, called Troup County Sheriff's Deputies to the home just after midnight telling them that two people had been shot.

Inside, deputies found 52-year-old Linda Sykes and 61-year-old Richard Sykes, Sr. Linda was pronounced dead on the scene. Richard was airlifted to a hospital in Atlanta where officials say he died on Sunday.

Neighbors say they did not know much about the couple, but they are in shock that this happened.

"I got up and looked out the window, and I seen all that going on out there, and I knew something bad had happened," said the neighbor.

Officials say the couple had marital problems and were separated. Deputies say Richard parked his car away from the home and rode a bicycle to the home where his wife was living. Deputies believe he shot the 52-year-old before taking his life.
