COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -
Storms rushed through Columbus Tuesday afternoon causing damage in the northern half of Muscogee County.
Witnesses in the Brookstone community said lightning struck a home and caused extensive damage to the home.
In addition to lightning reports, 60 mph wind gusts were reported at the Columbus Airport. A downed traffic light created a driving hazard for motorists at the intersection of Bradley Park Drive and Whitesville Road. A viewer captured video of the traffic light breaking loose from power lines, then landing on the wet roadway.
Georgia Power officials said a tree broke a power pole near 45th Street and the Bradley Park Drive area. Crews managed to switch power to most customers. However, customers without power in that area should expect to have their power restored at dark.
Residents in Harris County near Lake Harding reported seeing hail, while residents in Lee County, AL near Beauregard and Marvyn reported trees down in their area.
