Construction on the new $60 million GE Aviation facility is quickly taking shape in Auburn's West Tech Park.
The 300-thousand square foot facility is slated to be completed in November.
In the first part of 2013, GE Aviation expects to be creating jet engine components for some of the biggest names in the airline industry.
Phillip Dunlap, Auburn's economic director, is crossing his fingers that GE Aviation in Auburn will supply the new Airbus facility in Mobile.
"We don't know that for sure, but we hope so and we think it would be a great fit so we know they make components and parts, GE and GE partners do for engines in Airbus aircraft," Dunlap said. "So let's keep our fingers crossed and hope it results in good business for GE aviation facility here and results in opportunities for our citizens in Auburn."
The new facility in Auburn is expected to create about 500 new jobs.
A GE spokesperson said some of the salaried positions are already posted on GE's website. Machinist opportunities will be promoted using east Alabama career centers and job fairs.
