MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A teenager accused of hindering prosecution in a triple homicide in Auburn has received the maximum 20-year sentence in a separate killing in Montgomery.
Circuit Judge Gene Reese imposed the sentence Thursday on 18-year-old Jeremy Thomas of Montgomery.
Thomas pleaded guilty to manslaughter last month in the 2011 shooting death of 14-year-old Takira Sada Gaston. Gaston's father, Horace Mays, asked for the maximum sentence and the judge agreed because Thomas had a juvenile record.
The Montgomery shooting is not related to the Auburn killings.
Authorities say Thomas was at a party in Auburn last month when three people were killed and three were injured. He's accused of fleeing the party with the suspected shooter. That resulted in Auburn police charging him with hindering prosecution.
