HALL COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

A ranger working on Lake Lanier was assaulted after confronting a park visitor about having alcoholic drinks Sunday afternoon, according to police.

It happened at about 3:15 p.m. at Burton Mill Park in Hall County. Sheriff's deputies were called to the scene after a report of a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers ranger getting attacked.

Deputies said that while the ranger was patrolling the park, he observed a group of people with alcoholic beverages in a prohibited area.

As the ranger wrote up a citation for the offense, the ranger was physically attacked by a member of the group, according to police. After getting hit several times, the ranger used pepper spray to defend against the attackers until deputies could get on the scene.

Charlie Brown Jordan, 24, of Suwanee, is accused of attacking the ranger. Jordan was arrested and taken to Hall County Jail. He was charged with obstruction of an officer and awaits federal charges.

The incident remains under investigation.
