City plans to add dog park and several other additions to Columbus

Columbus has big plans in the works for you and your furry best friend - the city is adding a dog park to Oxbow Meadows.

City manager David Arrington says it was part of the 1999 special purposes local options sales tax and has been in high demand.

Arrington told News Leader 9 there will be two separate parks for big and small dogs.  Both parks will have water features and plenty of space for dogs to run.

"The park will grow over time and as we get further input from the users we'll make additional modifications," Arrington said.

The parks are only part of the major additions coming to Oxbow Meadows.

"This will be part of a much larger development there that will include a festival field and a corporate pavilion," said Arrington.

The city is also hoping to provide the park free of charge.

"We don't foresee any fees for using the park it will be like any other park available to the public to use. [The parks] are just one more thing to add to the quality of life in the community."

Arrington says construction is expected to begin by early fall.
