MONTGOMERY, AL (WTVM) - A federal judge sentenced three men who pleaded guilty in an Alabama statehouse bribery scheme regarding gambling to several years in federal prison.
Developer Ronnie Gilley was sentenced to nearly five years in prison. Lobbyist Jarrod Massey and former state representative Terry Spicer were both sentenced to five years in prison. All three will also pay hefty fines and undergo supervised release.
"You know what, I'm not the person I was a year ago, and I'm thankful for that," Gilley said after the trial. "As hard as it is for me to say, this is probably the best thing that's ever happened to me."
Gilley and Massey faced 27 years in prison, and both will get credit on their sentences for time served.
Nine other people went to trial and were acquitted by jurors.
