COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The West Georgia All-Stars beat Pike County 11-1 in five innings on Wednesday night to claim the Georgia Dixie Junior Boys state baseball championship.
Carson Hicks led West Georgia both on the mound and at the plate. Hicks tossed a two-hitter, allowing just one run and striking out 13, as well as hitting a three-run homer to key a six-run first inning.
Will Ferrell was 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Brett Griffin also went 2-for-4, adding two RBI.
Brandon Palmer also contributed, going 2-for-2 and scoring twice.
West Georgia advances to the Dixie Junior Boys World Series in Christiansburg, Virginia. They will play the Virginia state champions on the opening day of the tournament, August 4
