Lee County deputy, K-9 recovering from weekend accident

LEE COUNTY, AL (WTVM) -

A Lee County deputy and his K-9 partner are recovering after a horrific accident over the weekend.

Deputy Lee Flemming and his K-9 Mike were both injured Saturday night after Flemming swerved to miss a deer and hit a concrete cover in a ditch.

Flemming suffered major injuries, including fracturing several bones around his eyes and nose.

Mike, his K-9, was cut on his face, and was treated at the Auburn University Vet School.

"The first thing Lee asked about when he woke up was about his K9 partner and was he okay, and of course he is okay," said Sheriff Jay Jones of the Lee County Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff Jones says Flemming has a long recovery ahead of him, but there is every indication he will be back to work as a K-9 deputy in the near future.

He also says the Flemming family appreciates everyone's thoughts and prayers, and asks that you keep them coming.
