Unemployment rate to 9.8% in Columbus

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The Georgia Department of Labor announced the unemployment rate for Columbus has increased from 8.7 to 9.8% since May.

The rate increased because more than 230 new job seekers entered the labor force but were unable to find work. There were also more than 150 layoffs in the area.

Georgia's unemployment rate increased to nine percent up one tenth of a percentage point, marking the first increase in almost a year.
