DoD: 100,000 active duty troops could be cut

(WTVM) -

Amid talks of budget reductions in the defense department, an additional 100,000 active duty troops could be cut from the military.

The estimate of personnel cuts came from Defense Secretary Leon Panetta this week.

The reduction of troops would be a result of across the board spending cuts known as "sequestration" and is set to take effect in January.

The cuts will happen if an agreement cannot be reached in Washington on how to trim $1.2 trillion from the deficit.
