MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama's tax-free weekend for back-to-school supplies runs Friday through Sunday.

The state is waiving its 4% sales tax and many cities and counties are doing the same with their local sales taxes. The state Revenue Department says the cities participating include Huntsville, Birmingham, Montgomery, Mobile, Anniston, Florence, Gadsden, Opelika and Dothan.

3 of Alabama's four biggest counties- Mobile, Montgomery and Madison - are participating, but Jefferson County is not.

Items that qualify for the sale tax break include clothing under $100, school supplies under $50, books under $30, and computers and computer equipment under $750.
