Ala. texting and driving ban goes into effect

(WTVM) - The statewide ban on texting while driving has now gone into effect in Alabama.

Alabama will now be the 38th state in the country to implement the ban.

The new state law makes it a primary offense and allows law enforcement to stop you if they see you texting behind the wheel.

The State Department of Public Safety reports texting while driving caused more than 1,200 accidents and killed five people in Alabama in 2010.
