MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A memorial service is planned for Wednesday in Montgomery for Henry Hanly Funderburk Jr., who served as president of Auburn University and Eastern Kentucky University.
Funderburk died Saturday. He was 81.
A spokesman for Alabama Heritage Funeral Home says visitation will be at Frazer Memorial United Methodist Church at 10 a.m. Wednesday, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m.
Funderburk was appointed vice president and chief administrator for Auburn University's newly created campus in Montgomery in 1968. He developed the campus in a former cotton field and became its chancellor in 1978. He served as president of Auburn University from 1980 to 1983 and as president of Eastern Kentucky from 1985 until 1998.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Hanson Funderburk, and two children, Debra Cox and Kenneth Funderburk.
