Many of the infirmities that homeless people endure are actually borne in their feet because of all the walking and standing they do.

That's why the Valley Rescue Mission in Columbus is sponsoring "The Odd Life of Timothy Green" sock drive.

Inspired by the Disney film of the same name, the mission will be collecting socks to distribute to those in desperate need of assistance.

On top of the local collections, Hanes will also match up to 10,000.

The mission is accepting socks through September 3.

Designated boxes are available at community drop-off locations:

Hilton Terrace Baptist Church
2236 Warm Springs Rd.

St. Andrews Presbyterian Church
4980 Hancock Rd., Midland

Trinity Episcopal Church
1130 First Avenue

Edgewood Presbyterian Church
3617 Macon Road

Valley Rescue Mission
2903 Second Avenue

Movie-goers can also bring their sock donations to Carmike Cinema located at 5555 Whittlesey Blvd., where a collection box will be available during the film's run.
