(WTVM) - The first African-American to earn a degree from the University of Georgia is being honored by the school.

Mary Frances Early received her master's degree 50 years ago in 1962. She is set to speak at a ceremony commemorating her graduation a week from Wednesday Aug. 8.

Early has had an extensive career in music and education, most recently as head of the music department at Clark Atlanta University.
