PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) -

Phenix City is moving forward with developing their side of the Riverwalk.

At Tuesday's city council meeting, officials announced that the plans to build a hotel by the Riverwalk have been approved.

Officials say the major hotel will bring jobs and attract more developers.  News Leader 9 spoke with the city Director of Finance who says the multi-million dollar hotel will be located at the foot of the 14th  Street bridge.

"It will be an eleven million dollar project. We anticipate it generating about two hundred and fifty thousand dollars a year," Phenix City Director of Finance Stephen Smith said. "It will be a four story, 98 room hotel. We think it will be the flagship hotel for the entire area. It will be the only hotel overlooking White Water."

Smith says the city would like to develop the entire area around the hotel by bringing in new restaurants and stores.

The name of the hotel has not been released yet.
