COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

After a recount of more than 17,000 votes, incumbent John Darr will remain the Democratic nominee for Muscogee County Sheriff.

Both Darr and Pam Brown were at the Government Center Thursday as the results of the recount were revealed.

Sheriff Darr said he can concentrate on November's General Election and he was relieved and happy with the numbers.

Election officials began recounting ballots from last week's Georgia primary races Thursday morning. The recount indicated Sheriff Darr won by 71 votes - the same figures counters came up with last week.

The recount was requested Monday by candidate Pam Brown after last week's results showed that she lost to the incumbent.

Brown told News Leader 9 she still wants to be a voice in the community. She also plans to run in the next sheriff election. Brown added she is confident these numbers are correct.

Sheriff Darr will go on to face Republican candidate Mark LaJoye in November.
