Muscogee Co. Sheriff’s race ballot count error

MUSCOGEE COUNTY, GA (WTVM) - Elections officials in Muscogee County say a small voting error occurred during the recount in the race for the democratic nomination for county sheriff.

Fifteen absentee paper ballots -- nine in favor of Darr and six for Brown -- were counted twice.

The error was found during a reconciliation process through set checks and balances used to safeguard against errors.

Director of Elections and Voter Registrations Nancy Boren says a board meeting was called once the error was realized.

The error changed the vote difference between the two candidates from 71 to 68.
