Gala to Celebrate Benning’s Beginnings

FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) - The enduring relationship between Columbus and Fort Benning will be celebrated at this year's 1775 Society gala at the National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center.

Tickets are on sale now for "Benning Beginnings," a night of fine dining and dancing scheduled for Saturday, August 18, 2012. A reception and silent auction opens at 6 p.m. Dinner, featuring pepper-crusted filet mignon, grilled shrimp and a featured signature dessert, is at 7 p.m.

Guests will have the chance to bid on more than 100 items donated by museum supporters, including such things as a weekend at a California vineyard and a home stay during the Taste of Charleston, a villa in Italy.

Additional prizes include a behind-the-scenes tour of the Georgia Aquarium, a homemade dollhouse, interior design consultation, handcrafted art and jewelry, a boxing glove signed by Sylvester "Rocky" Stallone. One of the prizes even includes having a signature drink named after you at the Fife and Drum restaurant.

The Savannah-based band, Jeremy Davis and the Fabulous Equinox Orchestra, is known for its high-energy stage shows and its fresh approach to big band jazz.

The museum's grand hall will be dressed in the style of a Gatsby garden party, in a salute to the transition of Camp Benning to Fort Benning in the early 1920s.
