COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - You've been seeing crews hard at work on the white-water rafting project for months. So are we closer to rafting on the Chattahoochee River soon?
Richard Bishop with uptown Columbus said they are getting closer with work going on behind the Eagle-Phenix Dam in the Georgia channel, and they are starting to repair the Riverwalk that collapsed last year.
He says those projects should be completed by the end of this year.
"December, January time frame we will start demolition of the city mills dam, get that done and then we will be working on the put in and the take out," said Bishop. "So, this time next year, our goal is to be finished with the project and have people going down the River."
Bishop said you will see the delivery of the bridge that will connect the Riverwalk to the island in the next few weeks.
