COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

A piece of American history that's a rare Washington find will soon be on display at the Columbus Museum. Officials at the museum say they will unveil the portraits of the United States' first
president, George Washington, and his wife Martha.

The paintings are a gift from the CEO of Aflac, Dan and his wife Kathelen Amos. Kathelen Amos is the former chairwoman of the museum's board.

The unveiling of the paintings is scheduled to happen Thursday at the museum at 5:30 pm. The portraits are by renowned artist Rembrandt Peale and are more than 160 years old.

The Columbus Museum will mark its 60th anniversary and has a collection of 14,000 paintings and artifacts.

The Amoses bought the paintings during a recent visit to New York. They hope the paintings will be used to educate and inform patrons of all ages.
