WTVM 8/23/12 Editorial: Gas Prices – Alabama vs. Georgia

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - No consumer product swings up and down in price as often.  No consumer product creates more blame-game in Washington, and no other consumer product has its price plastered on huge signs on the roadways.

It's the one lightning rod subject everyone cares about, and we were wondering why gas in our area is often so different in price in Georgia versus Alabama.

We did some checking and the primary reason that gas is always about several cents cheaper in Alabama is mostly due to higher state gas taxes in Georgia.

Gas now runs about $3.70 nationwide, $3.65 in Georgia, and 3-50 in Alabama.  In fact, Alabama drivers always get a bargain as it's in the top-ten states for the lowest gas prices.
