The stunning Columbus gateway leading to Fort Benning will soon be seen around the state.
A picture of the Victory Drive gateway will soon be on the cover of millions of Georgia state maps.
The gateway was chosen by members of the State Transportation Board over thirteen other pictures from throughout the state, including one of the new terminal at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta.
Columbus Mayor Teresa Tomlinson said this publicity could really help the Columbus and Fort Benning area.
"It's great for tourism," said Mayor Tomlinson. "Every tourist that comes into a welcome center or hotel and picks up a road map will see that picture of that interchange and know that something that wonderful is in Columbus Georgia."
The mayor also said it's a great opportunity to show the rest of the state how proud we are to be a military community.
Every two years, the Department of Transportation prints nearly two million maps for the state.
