OPELIKA, AL (WTVM) -

A heated argument has left one Opelika man dead and another behind bars.

Police responded to the 400 block of Toomer Court at 5:11 p.m. Thursday afternoon where they found 53-year-old Leon Grady suffering from a single gunshot wound to the neck. Grady was transported to the East Alabama Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

"The investigation revealed the victim, Leon Grady, age 53 had gotten into an argument or confrontation with an individual during which the individual pulled a hand gun and shot Mr. Grady," explains Captain Bruce DeLong of the Opelika Police Department.

The individual has now been identified as 55-year-old Timothy Williams of Opelika. At approximately 11 p.m. Thursday night, Williams turned himself in to Opelika police and has been subsequently charged with the murder of Grady.

"He is currently in the Lee County Detention Facility awaiting a hearing. The status of that I do not know," says DeLong.

The investigation is still ongoing and anyone with information is encouraged to call the Investigative Service Division of the Opelika Police Department at 334-745-8665.
