COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -
A soldier with close ties to the Columbus community is in a coma in Florida, and the family is asking for your help.
Specialist David Stephens was in a car accident in Gainesville, Florida while on leave and ended up in a coma.
Stephens has a lot of family in Columbus, and some as far away as Kansas.
The Army is taking care of his bills, but the family still needs a hand to help with his recovery. They are asking for donations to help the family stay by his side.
"It all adds up and they have to travel from here all the way down there and they have to go back to work and they wouldn't be able to be there with him," say his cousins Heather Williams and CJ Creech. "He should be transferred back to Fort Gordon, but we're not sure when that is. They're trying to make sure he's stable enough to send him."
Stevens recently returned from a two-year deployment to Korea.
You can donate at any CB&T to the special donation fund for David Stephens.
