Ala governor orders coastal evacuations for Isaac

Associated Press

GULF SHORES, Ala. (AP) - Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley is declaring a state of emergency and ordering residents along the Alabama coast to evacuate ahead of Tropical Storm Isaac.

Bentley issued a mandatory evacuation order Sunday for much of southern Baldwin and Mobile counties.

Residents are supposed to begin leaving Monday at 8 a.m.

The order includes the coastal cities of Orange Beach and Gulf Shores in Baldwin County. In Mobile County it covers areas including Dauphin Island and Bayou La Batre but not the city of Mobile.

Bentley declared a statewide state of emergency because of Isaac. The state's coastal areas are under a hurricane warning, and forecasters say strong wind and heavy rain could extend miles inland.
