COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - According to the American Heart Association, obesity costs American companies nearly $226 billion a year in health-related productivity losses.
The greater Columbus American Heart Association hosted an executive leadership breakfast Wednesday morning to encourage corporate involvement in their annual heart walk.
The walk is scheduled for October 20 at the River Walk at Woodruff Park to encourage wellness for the employees.
The executive chef and owner of the market, Jamie Gruber, hosted the breakfast as a way of showing his support for the American Heart Association and being heart-healthy.
"My father had a heart condition about ten years ago and had to have a double bypass so the heart association is kind of near and dear to me, and when we had this opportunity I just wanted to be able to give back," said Gruber.
The American Heart Association hopes to create a healthier Columbus through raising awareness.
