Be There: Parents engaging in education

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

For years, you have seen stories about parents and community members engaging in kids education throughout the Muscogee County School District whether through helping kids learn more about banking to helping them prepare for the CRCT.

This school year, we are ready for more great ideas.

"These are things that are not necessarily during the course of the school day because we understand that parents can't sometimes make it to the school for different events and activities, but what are parents doing to connect with their children outside of the school day," said Valerie Fuller, the Director of Communications for the Muscogee County School District.

Fuller says Be There is a way to inspire parents to find teachable moments throughout the day with their kids.

"Whether you're out on a trip, whether you're at a grocery store, what are you doing on a daily basis to just teach your child valuable lessons that they can learn from and that you can learn from and engage in," said Fuller.

Fuller says Be There also shows children that their parents and their community are invested in them, and that can help them even more in the long run.

"When parents are involved with their children and their education, they tend to do better. It's not so much what the school gains, but what the child gains from having that experience and connection with a parent," said Fuller.

If you have an idea for Be There, you can pick up the forms at your child's school and turn them in there as well.
