(WTVM) -

In the wake of the destruction left behind by hurricane Isaac in Louisiana, volunteers from West Central and South Georgia are doing their part to help those affected by the storm.

Local volunteers from the west central chapter of the Red Cross will help care for displaced families in Atlanta. Members of the Flint River chapter near Albany are sending emergency response vehicles to Port Allen, Louisiana.

Helping those in need is the motivation behind why most people volunteer.

"People are in bad shape down there," said Thomas Kondratick. "I feel like it's my responsibility to help out."

The Red Cross has sent 63 volunteers from Georgia in emergency response vehicles to help those affected by Hurricane Isaac.

People interested in supporting Red Cross in providing Help and Hope are asked to text REDCROSS at 90999 to make a $10 donation.
