Mold found at Midland Academy, 15 classrooms affected

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

School officials tell us mold was found at Midland Academy in Columbus. They say the mold was found in ceiling tiles and the carpet in 15 classrooms in the 500 building of the school.

Valerie Fuller with the Muscogee County School District tells News Leader 9 that parents were notified last week about the issue.

Over the weekend all carpets in the school were cleaned and the ceiling tiles were replaced. There is a schedule in the works for permanent carpet removal. Parents are asked not to be alarmed.

Six teachers are reported to be sick but there is no direct correlation to the mold found in the classrooms.

A lab report says this is not dangerous for children - but they may experience allergy-like symptoms.
