(WTVM) - Volunteers in south Georgia got to work making needed repairs to the home of the family of a retired Moody Air Force veteran who died of cancer over the weekend.
Jack Mester died Saturday after a six-year battle with cancer that prevented him from keeping up his home.
His last wish was to make sure his family had a decent place to live.
Volunteers from Moody and veteran support groups are now making major repairs from putting on a new roof to laying a new floor.
His son, Jack Mester Jr., said his family is so thankful for the community's response.
"I would have never thought...people coming together, taking time out of their day to come out and help and do what is necessary," said Jack.
The Mesters hope to move back into their home within the next month.
