Chipper Jones’ baseball caught by Columbus High School student

It was a catch that one Columbus High School student will never forget.

Emily Wynn, 15, caught the game-winning home run ball hit by Chipper Jones at Turner Field Saturday night.

News Leader Nine's Curtis McCloud sat down with Emily as she relived what she calls a moment of a lifetime.

Wynn, a sophomore softball player at Columbus High School, was in center field watching her favorite team the Atlanta Braves.

The Braves down by 2 in the 9th inning, she watched as Chipper Jones hit the ball right towards her, a walk-off 3-run homer that landed in her hands.

"I saw the arc and I saw it coming down straight at me and I said I have a chance to catch this I'm not going to mess it up and so I just used soft hands and caught it," Wynn said.

She's not even a catcher – she typically pitches when playing for the Blue Devil's softball game. Wynn said as soon as she caught the ball, fans in the stands surrounded her.

"I had all these random people coming up to me asking me to take pictures and this one guy looked like he might was going to take it but he never did. I was screaming," she said.

With a month left in the season and Chipper Jones slated to retire, Wynn said it couldn't have been any better.

"I was in the right place at the right time and I was pretty fortunate to have that ball land in my hand because I'm a huge fan," Wynn said. "I never miss a game on TV."

Wynn and her family sat about 15 rows from the field. We asked, if she ever had the opportunity to meet Chipper in person, what would she tell him?

"You've had a great career and I feel blessed to have been able to catch that ball and I wish I would have gotten a little more out of it by giving it back to you but I wouldn't trade the experience for anything," she said.

Tuesday night, Chipper tweeted about the CHS student saying "Hey Emily Wynn! Get back here to the Ted, so I can properly thank you and congratulate you on a fine bare handed snag. I need a pic with u!!"
