GA high court upholds conviction, life sentence in Columbus murder

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

The Georgia Supreme Court has upheld the conviction and life sentence for Derrick Cartwright.

Cartwright was 18 years old when he was arrested in connection to a 2006 murder in Columbus.

 He was charged with the death of 24-year-old Kevin Stafford from Smiths Station, AL. 

Stafford was found shot to death in his car at the intersection of 35th Street and Sixth Avenue.
At the time, police said the motive appeared to be drug-related.
