Beginning in July, Stewart County will have a new superintendent of schools. Dianne Watkins was voted in by the school board to replace Floyd Fort, who is moving to Pelham City. There have been mixed reviews on the decision, and News Leader 9 has been investigating the circumstances behind Watkins' departure from Randolph County in January.More >>
COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -
Glover Wholesale Company will close its Columbus and Americus facilities by the beginning of 2013.
Glover is a food service distributor based in Americus, GA. It employs about 150 people, 40 of which are in Americus.
The company is being acquired by US Foods, which says it will consolidate the two area facilities into larger ones in Atlanta and Montgomery.
US Foods told News Leader 9 Monday, the transition is estimated to be complete by early 2013.
Company officials did not comment on the amount of money the company would save by closing the two facilities, since US Foods is a private company and it does not disclose financials.
US Foods added that Glover employees will have the opportunity to apply for open positions and they may be eligible for unemployment benefits under state law.
The Columbus Glover Foods facility is located on Cusseta Road and its Americus headquarters is located on Old Andersonville Road. Copyright 2012 WTVM. All rights reserved.
