COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Columbus State University ranked among 100 universities in the south for the first time, according to rankings released this week by U.S. News and World Report Magazine.

In the "Best Colleges" rankings, CSU is ranked No. 46 among public regional universities in the South.

Tim Mescon, President of Columbus State University, explains what this new rankings reflects in their students.

"It's a point of celebration for the students," Mescon says. "Truth be known, a lot of the data reflects student quality and so it's an acknowledgement of increasing academic standards and the capabilities of our students. We're excited for them and excited about the progress we're making and we're looking forward to the future."

Columbus State is listed as No. 91 in the South in the "Best Regional Universities" section of the magazine.  You can read about Columbus State's rankings in the Best Colleges 2013 Guidebook that goes on sale September 28.
