MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

The victims in a Montgomery home invasion Friday are being identified as the in-laws of an Alabama state representative.

The in-laws of Representative Jay Love (R-Montgomery) were at their home on Monticello Drive when the home invasion occurred around 9:15 Friday morning.

Authorities were called to the residence on a burglary call. Montgomery Police Department spokeswoman Sgt. Regina Duckett said the investigation reveals that there was a knock at the door and two black males entered the residence armed with a handgun. It was at that point when the suspects attempted to rob the residence.

The robbers fled the scene, but police believe that they have one of the two suspects in custody. That suspect's identity has not yet been released. The second suspect is still on the loose.

Representative Love confirmed that his mother-in-law, Louis Walker, was struck in the head with a pistol and suffered severe lacerations to her head and face. She also has several broken bones in her face. Love said he believed she would be okay, adding that doctors said she did not sustain any brain injuries.

Mrs. Walker was in surgery as of 4:45pm. Love said she will remain in the hospital for a few days.

Investigators say some currency and jewelry were taken in the robbery.

Love said he and his family are asking for prayers for Mrs. Walker and her husband. He says he has every confidence that police will arrest the other suspect in this case.

Anyone with information is being asked to call their local police department.
