Kareem Lane is now a free man.
He was released on bond Thursday evening at 7:50 p.m. Earlier that afternoon, Judge Bobby Peters granted a request to lower his bond.
After he was released, Lane walked across the street to Abercrombie Bonding in Columbus. When asked what he was going to do next, Lane said he was going home to commiserate with his family. He then said he was thinking of going to Disneyland.
Wednesday, jurors in the 20-year-old murder case were dismissed after Judge Bobby Peters declared a mistrial when they returned with no verdict.
Lane told News Leader 9 that he would have liked an acquittal from the jury but was happy with the majority vote.
Lane's bond was lowered to $30,000.
The district attorney's office has to decide whether to retry Lane for murder. Judge Peters said the state can take as long as they need to make their decision.
