COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

A violent crash claimed the life of a driver on J.R. Allen Parkway in Columbus. It happened Sunday evening near the Schomburg Road exit. 

Witnesses observed the the white car swerving from side to side before crashing and rolling into the woods and striking a tree.    

The 1974 Corvette was in pieces and finally stopped facing the wrong way on the road. 

The victim was identified as Jimmy Shingles, 45, of Columbus. The coroner says he died from blunt forced trauma. 

A funeral for Shingles will be held at St. James AME Church on Thursday at 3 p.m.  St. James is on 1002 6th Ave. The Hardaway High School band will perform.
