COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Columbus police have named a suspect in connection with the killing a father of ten early Sunday morning.

Police said Sandy Mitchell should be considered armed and dangerous.

They described him as a 21-year-old black man, 5'10" and 215 pounds with a small scar in the center of his forehead.

Zaakirah Bilal said she has not been able to sleep after finding out that her father, 59-year-old Byron Brown, was killed.

"He may have been hard on us sometimes, but he did it because he really, really cared, and he never wanted us to be a product of our environment. So, therefore, he worked really hard," said Bilal.

Investigators said they found Brown in the driver's seat of his Yellow Cab van at the intersection of Munson Drive and Shelby Street in Columbus early Sunday morning with a single gunshot wound to his head.

He was pronounced dead on the scene.

"What happened to him, you know, was unthinkable," said his daughter.

Bilal said her father was more than a cab driver. He was a hard-working man who was saving up to buy one of his sons a car as a high school graduation present.

Gathering at his home, some of his ten children are trying to cope by talking about their favorite memories of Brown.

"His corniness and his sense of humor, and his laugh. He had this laugh and he would, it is hard to explain, but it sounded like he was crying and laughing at the same time and hiccupping all at once," said Bilal.

Police said Yellow Cab dispatch last heard from Brown when he arrived at Motel Six off Victory Drive to pick up a passenger.

Now, his family is asking if anyone with any information about what happened to please come forward.

"My father was only 59. He had ten kids and nine grandchildren. He didn't deserve to die like that," said Bilal.

Police say the suspect, Sandy Mitchell, lives near the Benning Drive and Victory Drive area and is known to frequent the convenience store at Shelby Street and Benning drive.
