Editorial WTVM 9/26: AL Voter ID Awareness

Posted: Updated:

Last week, I talked about getting a proper voter ID so you could vote in November.

I was talking mostly about Georgia laws but I did mention Alabama and caused some confusion. Officials from Russell County reminded me that in Alabama you only need an ID, photo not required.

Some of the IDs that qualify are a US Passport, a Military ID,  an Alabama Hunting or fishing license, an Alabama gun permit, a Social security card, and an utility bills.

There are others so you should check at your local courthouse. Alabama will become a photo ID state in 2014 if its new law receives pre-clearance under Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act.

But for now we're less than two months away from the election for president, along with many local and state offices.

It's important to know what you need to bring to the polls to be able to do your civic duty! Do what you need to do to make your vote count!
