COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

A head-on collision has claimed the life of a Phenix City man.

Muscogee County's coroner identified the victim as 21-year-old Larry Lamar Jones.

Witnesses say Jones left the eastbound lane and veered into oncoming traffic hitting another car at Buena Vista Road and Thyer Avenue just before 7:30 Tuesday morning near Allen's TV Repair Service.

The shop's owner Veron Allen said he heard the crash and immediately called for help.

"The gentlemen in the car looked like he was in pretty bad shape, he had struck the windshield and was not moving," Allen said. "The female in the other car had gotten herself out of the vehicle and was laying on the ground."

The other driver survived.  Jones' body is being sent for an autopsy on Wednesday.  There is no word yet on what caused the accident.
