New anti-texting & driving campaign features AL Gov. Robert Bentley

(WXTX) - A new video that could have the power to save lives will soon be distributed to driver education programs throughout Alabama.

Governor Robert Bentley and Colonel Hugh McCall, director of the Alabama Department of Public Safety, recorded an introduction for the video, urging viewers to heed the warnings not to text and drive.

We warn you: the video is at times difficult to watch as troopers share firsthand accounts of the tragedies of texting and driving.

"When I got to the scene, her face was disfigured from sliding down the roadway," said Grant Hendrix with the Missouri state highway patrol. "The first thing I noticed was her shoes lying in the roadway in a large pile of blood... and I thought this was a young girl… that's the first thing I thought when I saw this. I noticed her cap and gown...she was going to graduate the next day."
