Cases of West Nile on the rise


The number of West Nile cases is on the rise, there have been ten new cases of the West Nile Virus recorded in Alabama.  The number of people contracting and dying from the virus is the highest it has been since 2003.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Montgomery County has 8 reported cases of West Nile.  This county has the highest number of people contracting the virus, Mobile County is a close second with 7 cases.

In Georgia, there have been 45 cases of West Nile, the highest amount is in Dougherty County with 8 cases of the virus, one of them being fatal.  Two other deaths from the virus were in Lee County, GA.

3,969 cases have been reported, and 163 deaths have been a result from the virus.  There are ways to help keep yourself safe from mosquito bites, to check them out and be better prepared you can search on the WTVM web site West Nile Virus Protection.
