Governor Deal kicks off Celebrating Rural Georgia Oct 10

TIFTON, GA (WTVM) -

Governor Nathan Deal will kick off the annual Celebrating Rural Georgia conference Wednesday Oct. 10 in Tifton at the UGA Tifton Campus Conference Center. 

The event highlights Successes & Opportunities in Rural Georgia, and will also feature a luncheon address by Scott Angle, Dean of the College of Agriculture &Environmental Sciences at UGA.

Other features include the annual formal presentation of OneGeorgia Authority awards by Governor Deal to community representatives from 28 rural Georgia locations.  These awards for the past year total over $48 million, and are creating over 8,700 jobs in rural Georgia.

In addition, two speakers' panels  will update participants on rural water supply, Georgia agriculture innovations, rural technology and broadband, telemedicine and downtown development initiatives.

The Georgia Rural Development Council, the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, and the OneGeorgia Rural Policy Center co-sponsor this annual event. 

Celebrating Rural Georgia begins with continental breakfast at 9 a.m., and will conclude by 3 p.m.
