ATLANTA (AP) - Georgia Tech has fired defensive coordinator Al Groh.

Head coach Paul Johnson announced the move Monday, two days after the Yellow Jackets (2-4, 1-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) lost 47-31 to Clemson. The previous week, Georgia Tech gave up 49 points in an embarrassing loss to Middle Tennessee.

Groh, a former head coach at Virginia and for the NFL's New York Jets, was in his third season running Georgia Tech's defense. Secondary coach Charles Kelly will take over as the interim coordinator, and Johnson is shaking up the rest of his defensive staff as well.

The Yellow Jackets are off this week.
