Lady Cougars top Flagler

COLUMBUS, Ga. - Despite allowing their first goal in over 550 minutes, the 10th-ranked Columbus State women's soccer team broke a 1-1 tie at the half by scoring three second half goals on their way to a 4-1 victory over Flagler Monday afternoon in a Peach Belt Conference battle at the Walden Soccer Complex.

Coming out of the break knotted at one all, the Lady Cougars continued their offensive onslaught missing on several opportunities before finally cracking through in the 61st minute of play. Shelby Rolling played a ball to the near post for a crashing Emily Husted who back-heeled the ball into the net for the eventual game-winning goal.

It was Husted's second goal of the game as she gave CSU the early 1-0 lead in the 24th minute on a ball from Kayla Brown. The assist was Brown's sixth assist of the year, tied for the second most in the PBC, one behind the leader.

Columbus State put the game away in the 67th minute as Stephanie Lowery received a ball off a short corner and dribbled into the box whipping the ball in where it found the head of Kansas Bayly to put the host's in front 3-1.

Kelsey Pelletier capped off the scoring as a goal kick went straight to her setting up a one-v-one situation with the goalkeeper and she calmly scored her third goal of the season.

Mary Mancin picked up the win for CSU playing the full 90 minutes as she made a pair of saves.

Cristina Coca, the PBC Goalkeeper of the Week, suffered the loss allowing all four goals while making just one save in the contest. Cory Amend scored Flagler's lone goal in the 32nd minute. It was the first time in four meetings that the Saints have scored against CSU.

The Lady Cougars outshot FC by a 15-4 margin and held a decisive 11-1 edge in corner kicks.

CSU will rest up during the week before hosting No. 14 North Alabama on Friday, October 9. This will be the third all-time meeting between the two sides as Columbus State has gone 1-0-1 in the previous two meetings. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at the Walden Soccer Complex.
