PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) -

Some people in east Alabama say it is a change that is long over-due after voters elected new faces for the final two seats on Phenix City Council Tuesday night.

That means every member will be new to council.

A day after he won the seat to represent District One on Phenix City Council, Jim Cannon says he is ready to get to work.

"I want to have a fiscal audit. Being in business as many years as I have been is to know where the money to know the money that you have to live with and what you have," said Cannon.

Arthur Day also won a run-off election for the District 3 seat and says he is ready to get to work too.

"[I want to see ] more improvement and solutions for our city with educational programs and more senior citizens programs," said Day.

Day and Cannon will join what some are calling the new dream team. In August, Phenix City voters elected their first ever African-American mayor, Eddie Lowe and did not re-elect three incumbent council members instead putting in Chris Blackshear as Council Member at Large elect and Gail Head to represent District 2.

So, in a matter of weeks, five new faces will fill these seats.

"I think the people of Phenix City finally realized that those at city hall work for them. Anybody who is elected, you elect them to serve," said Cannon.

"This is a new Phenix City with new representation for all districts throughout the city," said Day.

Some voters, like Don Eyles, say they are ready for a change.

"I think we needed new faces and I'm looking forward to them doing a good job," said Eyles.

Cannon says he is confident that he and the other new council members will be able to move the city forward.

"We can all get together and work with the county, work with our sister city in Columbus and all the surrounding area, and let's just be one," said Cannon.

The new mayor and council members are scheduled to be sworn in on November 5.
